The colorimetric DMAC assay is more specific than other quantitation methods used for cranberry PACs.

  • DMAC 4-(dimethylamino)cinnamaldehyde is an aromatic aldehyde that reacts with flavan-3-ols and cranberry PACs to form a green chromophore with maximum absorbance at approx. 640 nm. This wavelength effectively excludes the spectra of anthocyanidins which are a source of interference in other assays like vanillin and butanol-HCl assays.

  • Measuring the PACs is essential for the formulation and standardization of powder extracts in relation to urinary tract health

  • The DMAC assay measures 36 mg PAC in a 10 fl oz (300 mL) glass of cranberry juice cocktail.  It is a documented 75 years old medicinal tradition to drink one large glass of cranberry juice cocktail per day to maintain urinary tract health.
